Scott Allen Makes Pitching Debut in Ironheads Win

The Ironheads extended their winning streak to three with a 4-3 win against the Breakers on Monday night.  Scott Allen made his 2012 pitching debut and did a fine job after undergoing knee surgery last summer.  He later pulled himself from center field due to knee soreness.  Ironheads trainer Riley Buttfesterhaven said, "Allen is day-to-day and we're interested in protecting our newly-acquired asset, so we sent him home with the kids he was babysitting and we're going to give him some rest.  We've put him on a strict no-hackey-sack and no-Lenny-Kravitz Fourth of July break, so I think he'll come back strong in the 2nd half of the season.  He hit a solid triple tonight, however, so we'll let him bat until the cows come home to Algonquin."

Swatch pitched a mighty fine relief followed by Kevin Noertker closing the game.

The Breakers were ahead, leading 2-0 for most of the game with a fantastic outing from starter Adam York.  Ironheads' defense made some reprehensible errors, the most egregious being Ryan Lee's hit-right-to-him-but-he-ran-the-wrong-way read in center field which put the Breakers third and final runner-who-would-score on second.  Temporarily on the losing end of a 3-2 score, Lee redeemed himself (only until his next E8, which will probably come on the first play of next Monday's game) by hitting a game-winning bases-loaded 2 RBI grounder between SS and 3B in the last inning.

Irish car bombs were enjoyed by both teams at the Gasser Lounge after the game.  Also worthy of note was that Darren Rettew was the official scorekeeper and this BCBL ballgame was streamed live via the iScore app.  Equipment manager Ed Pearson followed the entire game while at home.  Thanks Darren!
