2016 BCBL Official Schedule...

Hello ballers, apologies for the delay with getting this out to you all, but we are now confirmed for all of June and tentatively confirmed for the remainder of the season.  I tried to balance the Mira Costa, night games, and Monday games except where specific team-wide requests were made. 

NOTE:  During June, we are playing all of our games on Sundays. Monday games are scheduled to start after 4th of July break.

The BCBL Times - Presidential Fireside Chat - May Edition

Hello ballers!  May is well on it's way and we're less than a month away from our first games!  I realize there's been a limited amount of information and that we have yet to hold a spring training, but I'm hoping the following information will help clear all of this up.

SPRING TRAINING:  We have two spring training dates on the books.  For new players, if you are unable to attend one or both of them, please contact me immediately and we'll discuss alternative methods for skills evaluation prior to the draft.

5/15:  5-7pm - All New Players MUST attend for evaluation.
5/22:  5-9pm - Team Scrimmage & Meet/Greet

GAME SCHEDULE:  Currently, we only have the field reserved from 5-10pm on Sundays in June due to scheduling conflicts that we are working hard to resolve.  The Little League has already given us verbal approval for the 4-5 hour so Sundays are in the books for June, but we are still trying to work out a 3hr time slot for our 3rd game every week.  It is possible that these games will take place on Sunday or another night of the week at other fields in the area.  Standby for the final schedule.

FEES:  The board has settled on final fees of $150 (same as last year).  If you would like to start paying your fees via PayPal, go ahead and do so.  Don't forget that your $20 registration goes toward the $150, so you only need to send an additional $130.

The board has decided to cap the league at 84 PAID players. As of today, only 80 people have paid their $20 registration fee or contacted me about payment.  If you have signed up, but I don't have any record of your payment, you should have received an email this morning.  If you did not receive that email, then you hold one of the Claimed spots.

UNIFORMS:  I have put in the order for the uniforms today and hopefully they will all be ready by June 6th.

GAME TIME CHANGES:  This year, we continue to adjust our game time to fit within our time window.  Our gametime slots will be 3 hrs long with the scheduled start time 15 min into the gametime slot.  The first 15 min are dedicated to field prep and on-field warmups (you can still arrive early and warm up off-field).  No New Inning will be 2hr 20min after actual start time (first pitch).  Last batter/Drop-Dead will be 2hr 40min after scheduled start time.

EXAMPLE:  If our game time slot is from 4pm until 7pm, scheduled start time is at 4:15pm.  First pitch occurs a little late at 4:20pm, so No New Inning would be at 6:40pm but Last Batter/Drop-Dead stays at 6:55pm.

BCBL Spring Training Update (No Spring Training This Weekend) (5/1)...

There will be NO spring training this weekend.

We are currently working out our schedule around the Manhattan Beach Little League and Pony League.  As such, although we received clearance from the Little League to hold a spring training this weekend, due to personal matters, I was unable to make it down to Manhattan Beach today to book the field in time.  I apologize to everyone in the league and will strive to get this squared away as soon as possible.

The Manhattan Beach Parks and Rec schedulers are currently looking into what can be done to resolve the schedule crunch in a way that (hopefully) satisfies all involved.  I should have more information early next week and will pass it along to you all in the monthly BCBL email I've been sending out.

So, in the meantime, hit the cages and keep your eyes on these email accounts for more updates.  Thank you for your patience.

Registration Status

This email was sent to the players we have signed up (as of midnight 4/29) as well as a few additional people and former players to keep them informed.  I have included a list of players who have signed up below.  If you think somebody is missing from the list, have them contact me immediately and have them sign up on our website.  We will only have enough space for 6 teams this year, so we are officially capping at 84 paid players.  As of midnight 4/29, there are 16 unpaid spots.  Anyone who signs up and doesn't get their money in on time will be placed on a our free agent/waiting list for a team.

2016 BCBL Uniform Preview...

Good news! I just received the proofs for the uniforms from Uniforms Express.

These have not been finalized yet, so if you have any additional feedback, please send it my way as soon as possible!

​A couple notes:

• The Bears jersey has only 1 paw print because that's the only way they could do tackle-twill.  We can do 2 paw-prints, but it means we'll have to screen print.
• The Maxim logo over the top right chest will be moved to the sleeves on the final designs.  This logo has to be on the jersey per UESports agreement with Maxim. Sorry Waldo!

REGISTRATION:  Just a reminder to get your registration in.  Registering helps us start to plan for the season.  But just like last year, the registration fee is completely refundable and non-binding.

OFFICER ELECTION: Congratulations to your new officers.  We will be holding our first board meeting within the next two weeks to flesh out the details for the upcoming season. 

UNIFORMS:  The final votes have been tallied and the uniforms selected.  Click the link to see the final selections!  This year, the BCBL will be getting all new jerseys.  As we get closer to the season, players will be offered the option of purchasing their uniform at-cost, so if you like what you see, you can take it home with you!

GAME TIMES:  I'm working with the Little League and the City this year, but as it currently stands, there's some scheduling issues that may prevent the 3 hr game times we had last year.  Hopefully this can be resolved, but I wanted to let everyone know that we're working on it and hope to maintain what we started last year, giving teams enough time to play a full game.

SPRING TRAINING:  Tentatively, I am looking at scheduling practices on each weekend in May, but this may depend a little on field availability.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED:  In the past, members of the BCBL have assisted the Manhattan Beach Little League by being assistant coaches and coaches for their kids.  If you're interested in helping out, contact us at bcblbaseball@gmail.com and we'll pass along the information.

BONUS BASEBALL:  Bob Sharka, a retired BCBL player is arranging to go play a double-header at San Quentin Prison on Saturday June 11th.  Rumor has it Sanjay will be attending this year to, although it's not clear to me which side of the fence he'll be on.  If you want to add to your baseball resume and have a unique experience, email us or contact Bob directly and we'll get you the information.

BCBL Uniform Designs

Thank you to all the early registrants who have voted for the BCBL uniform designs. I'm proud to announce the winners!

We will be sourcing all of our uniforms through Uniforms Express in order to make reorders easier in the future.  So let's see the designs!

Barracudas

The original Barracudas uniform won out with 75% of the vote.  Congrats to Waldo for designing such a solid uniform!

Breakers

The first new uniform for the Breakers since the original t-shirt, this is going to look great out on the ballfield.  It won with an almost unanimous decision.  I can't wait to see the defending champions in all their glory.

Bears

In the race with the most designs, this design won with just under 50% of the vote.  Although it looks like it will need to be done in screen-print, I'm hoping to work something out with the manufacturer to pull that awesome logo off in the higher quality tackle-twill under budget.  It's the least that we could do for our 4-peat champions.

Bombers

By far the closest race, the two-button design won out by a single vote.  The final tally was 9-8-8.  We may tweak the final details on this one a little bit, but I'll work with the returning team members to lock this design down in the coming weeks.

Stallions

Not surprisingly, the vest won out for the Stallion army with 80% of the vote.  With the addition of the white neck trim, this will continue the great visual tradition started by the Moon-man himself.

Ironheads

Finally, the Ironheads and the league voted to keep true to the history of the Ironhead jersey.  The Original design won with just over 50% of voters selecting it.

If all goes according to plan, all teams will have their new uniforms in time for the start of the season.  We may not always look graceful out there on the field, but at least we'll look good!

The BCBL Times - Presidential Fieldside Chat - March Edition

Hello ballers!

To get people fired up for the season and keep everyone in the loop, I'll be giving everyone a monthly update on the league going forward.

REGISTRATION:  Just a reminder to all of you to get your early registration in and take advantage of the uniform perks.  Registering early also helps us start to plan for the season.  But just like last year, the registration fee is completely refundable and non-binding.

FIELD RESURFACING:  Good news and bad news on this front...  Good news is that this is currently scheduled to begin in September, so summer season won't be affected!  Bad news is that means we won't have the new turf field until next year and we may have to consider alternatives for the fall league.

OFFICER ELECTION:  Appreciate the feedback we received and the nominations.  We are still looking for Northrup Grumman employees to step up for the Treasurer and Communications Officer position.  Nominations close this Wednesday and voting will be open for the following week, so it's not too late to get involved!

GET YOUR GEAR!  Sports Authority has fallen on some tough times, and they're closing some stores.  Liquidation sales are going starting as early as this weekend at those stores, so keep your eyes out for some great deals to replace those cracking bats, ailing cleats and reeking cups.

PS. Here's a little preview of some uniform designs I'm working on.  If you have any design ideas or logos, send them in!  I plan on offering at least 3 designs for each team.  I've been mainly using the LogoSportsWear.com site to prototype these designs.  Only rule is that the final price for 15 jerseys should be around $50 per jersey.

I have opened up registration to all 2015 players in order to get a jump on registrations this year.

We're also going to try something a little new this year.  The league will be providing all teams with new jerseys for players that will be handed out at each game.  Optionally, the jerseys may be permanently purchased by the players ($50).  Purchasing the jersey reserves that player number for as long as the team wears that style of jersey.

Players who sign up for Early Bird Registration will be guaranteed their previous summer league team and player number (unless someone signs up ahead of them).  Returning fall players will not be guaranteed a team, but their player number will be available.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!  Players that sign up during Early Bird Registration will be given the opportunity to trade in their old jersey for a registration discount or buy their new jersey outright at a heavily discounted price.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!  Players who sign up during Early Bird Registration will also get to vote on the final jersey designs!

Hello players, a new season is upon us and the first order of business is Election of new Officers.

The Nomination period will end March 9th, and the election will take place via email over the following week.

2016 Officer Positions

President - Must be a 2015 BCBL Board Member

 - Oversees league operations

 - Coordinates scheduling with outside entities

Commissioner - Must be a Northrup Grumman employee

 - Acts as direct POC for league or player issues

 - Maintains league rules/regulations

Treasurer - MUST be a Northrup Grumman employee

 - Maintains budget

 - Coordinates reimbursement

Communications Officer - NG Employee preferred

 - Updates social media

 - Advertises the league to increase participation

 - Coordinates community outreach and volunteer opportunities

Tournament Coordinator

 - Assembles a travelling team to play other leagues or in NABA tournaments

 - Performs or delegates travelling team manager responsibilities

Operations Manager

 - Purchases, inventories and maintains league-owned equipment

Statistician

 - Collects and compiles official league stats

You may also nominate one of your fellow club members if you think they would be well suited to the position.  If they accept the nomination, they will be included in the final ballot.
