The Bears improved to 7-2 on the season, beating the Ironheads by a score of 10-8. To everyone's surprise, the Bears put up 8 runs in the first inning against the reigning back-to-back BCBL pitcher of the year (although Gary Scott struck out 4 batters in the inning). Scott settled in from there, allowing the Ironheads to pull within one of the lead. However, Bill Kardine and his sleeveless jersey was too much for the 'Heads to overcome, and the Bears were able to hang on for victory.
Other notes:
- Matt Lane went 3 for 4, with 2 doubles, a single, and some RBIs, despite a grave calf injury.
- Jason Vadgley booked a trip to Costa Rica with his girlfriend. He will leave on August 23rd, forcing him to miss the championship game. No, this was not booked before the season. He booked it 3 weeks ago.
- The Bears are somewhat confident that last night's win locked up first place for them, but the standings haven't been updated in at least two weeks.
